Mansionhouse Gardens is participating in No Mow May

We’re excited to announce that our estate is taking part in No Mow May this year. No Mow May is a nationwide initiative aimed at boosting biodiversity by giving pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hoverflies a helping hand in their critical early months.

  • No Mow May encourages communities to pause mowing grassy areas throughout the month of May, allowing plants and flowers to bloom naturally. This creates essential habitats and significantly increases nectar availability for pollinators during a critical period.

  • Pollinators are vital for our ecosystems, but are currently in decline due to habitat loss and climate change. Allowing grassy areas to grow naturally in May can increase nectar availability up to tenfold, directly benefiting local wildlife.

  • Expect to see colourful blooms like dandelions, daisies, and clover. These plants, often labelled as weeds, are actually essential early nectar sources for pollinators and will help create a vibrant, thriving ecosystem within our estate.

  • Our gardeners, City Centre Gardening, are fully informed and on board - the last mowing of the public areas of the estate will take place at the end of April. In May, the gardeners will not mow. They will resume their mowing in early June and then continue on the usual schedule (after getting the May growth under control).

  • Yes! We encourage you to join the rest of the estate in participating
